Spring Rogaines - Saturday 15 November

Subject to obtaining formal permission, we're holding a Spring Rogaine in Bondo State Forest, east of Tumut on Saturday 15 November. There will be 6 and 12 hour options. The area features a mix of native and pine forest. The course has been designed with to provide easier routes that use the well-defined features, and more challenging loops for those looking for a physical and navigational challenge.

The starts of both events will be at 11am. The six hour will finish at 5 pm, and 12 hour will finish at 11 pm. This is a good event to step up to a 12 hour as there will only be about 2:40 hrs of dark.

Save the date!

We will open entries towards the end of October or sooner if land access permission is granted. In the meantime, check out the gallery from the setters.

We need a few helpers: someone to tow the catering trailer to and from the event, some on the day helpers for admin and catering, and control collectors. Please see the event page and contact Julie if you can help out.

ANU Inward Bound

‍In a few short days, many young rogainers will be putting blindfolds on and stepping into the unknown as part of the Australian National University’s Inward Bound (IB) race, to be held on Friday 10 - Saturday 11 October.

For anyone who doesn’t know about the event, teams of four are dropped in secret locations and have to work out where they are. Once they locate themselves, they have to plan and navigate themselves along a route to a finish line (that is also a secret until race day). Depending on the division, they will need to run 35-100km to reach endpoint. It’s the ultimate challenge of mental and physical endurance.

ACTRA’s strong youth (and formerly youth) membership stems from runners doing their first rogaine as part of training for IB.

Good luck to all the runners (including our very own ACTRA President), and to all the volunteers and committee members who have made it all possible.

IB Live

Something that's almost as good as participating in IB, is watching the event and the drama unfold on the grand scale in real time. You can follow everything live with race trackers, photos, and expert commentary on the IB Live Website.

Admire the teams that streak ahead with homing pigeon like precision, will on the teams that persevere through setback after setback as they fight to finish before cutoff, and hold your heart in your mouth as you watch an audacious crash or crash through bushbash (they usually crash).

IB Live will be running continuously from Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon.

‍President's Piece

Congratulations to all the ACT teams who made the trip to Mt Werong to compete at the recent NSW Championships. Special recognition goes to Kelvin Meng and Oscar Woolford from ANU, who took out the Intervarsity Championship title – an outstanding achievement and a testament to the depth of talent we have here in the ACT!

We’re also pleased to say the rogaining year isn’t over just yet. A newly added spring event is on the horizon, offering one more chance to get enjoy the outdoors before the year wraps up.

Behind the scenes, the committee is hard at work shaping the 2026 rogaining calendar. We're aiming for another exciting and diverse year of events, and we look forward to sharing more details soon.

Of course, none of this is possible without our amazing volunteers. From course setters to on-the-day helpers, you are the backbone of our sport. If you’re keen to get involved, we’d love to hear from you – no experience necessary!

See you on course soon,

Ollie James

President, ACT Rogaining Association
