We are heading to the Belconnen region for the 2026 Realm of the Owl virtualgaine. The event start/finish (aka Hash House) is behind the CIT Bruce Campus. The start location is at the entrance to Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve, off Purdie Street, near CIT. This is shown as a triangle near the centre of the map. There is ample free parking in the CIT car park.
A very big thank you to our setter Jon Glanville, for another fun course with lots of sites of interest and Julie Quinn, vetter. Here are a few photos of hidden gems in the Virtualgaine gallery.
The event course will be open for you between Saturday 23 May and the end of Monday 8 June 2026. That gives you two weeks and three weekends, two of which are long weekends as well as other times to have a go at the course.
Scoring in a virtual rogaine works using MapRun on your phone. Please download and read these instructions on using MapRun to learn how to use the App. The App uses the GPS on your phone to work out you are at the control location. To score a control you will need to be within 10 m of the feature. Check your detailed control descriptions as there are no flags. The MapRun App will show the map on your phone screen but if you prefer to be able to see the whole map, there will be a link on this page before the event to download and print your own copy.
Copies of the map on Teslin paper (waterproof) will be available in Paddy Pallin's (Lonsdale Street, Civic) from Thursday 21 May.
You can compete in a team or on your own. You can also compete multiple times.
If you would like to be part of the official results (we will publish these after the event) please enter for free before you head out. It will help us compile results if you (or one person in your team) can please enter using the same name as you do in MapRun. That person should make sure they upload the team's result in MapRun.
We also encourage you to take pictures of your adventure. If you would like to add them to the event galley, please contact David for a link to upload (we're not including a link here to keep the 'bots at bay).
Had lots of fun? You can also walk/run around some of the other virtualgaine events from previous years. Orienteering ACT also has lots of small MapRun events around Canberra.
